ROCKETRY

he involved into the invention field, his next motive was to launch a rocket from the Sri Lanka through complete production within the country.

In 2018, first prototype of an experimental rocket was designed and produced. Then in the same year he got the chance to exhibit the prototype in a science and technological exhibition organized by his school, Bandaranayake collage, Gampaha. In there, that prototype was able to catch the special attention of the president at the time Hon. Maithripala Sirisena. The former president gave his contribution for the rocketry project by giving instructions for authorities to provide the fullest cooperation and allocating government financial provisions to accomplish the rocketry project successfully. Under presidential instructions, Sri Lankan Air force guided the launching processes and authorization procedures. The rocketry project was started with the assistance of Sri Lankan Air force.

All the apparatuses and materials needed for this project were acquired  from inside sources within the country by fulfilling international standards

He himself designed the electronic system ,recovery system controlling and AI system.

In the first stage, standard solid state rocket fuels were used, which were produced locally.Employing that solid fuel ground testing, thrust calculations and material testing were demonstrated. Then, after testing more that hundred combinations of fuel mixtures, a new rocket solid fuel composition was fomulated by him improving more performances. Using this new solid fuel a successful full ground  testing was done including body testing, recovery testing, navigation system testing, electronic system testing, engine testing and material testing.

Body stabilizing of the rocket  was also tested on the ground

The first experimental rocket was launched from the Kalpitiya launching point in Sri Lanka in…. ,2019.
Then, incorporating all the required modifications of the internal parts, mechanisms and features, the second experimental rocket was manufactured. It was simulated according to scientific calculations. Gihan kavinda created simulating softwares that needed for that process.
The second experimental rocket launching was also succeeded with outstanding performances in …. 2019.

After the second one three experimental rockets were designed and they were scheduled to launch in March 2020. But due to covid 19 pandemic, the rocket launching and his other researchs have been discontinued.
He is looking forward to resume those projects once this situation is subsided. And also he expects to scheme and demonstrate a self landing system for rocket boosters without using parashoots.

RAPTOR 01

This is the first experimental rocket he produced which belongs to 75mm category, named Rapter 01.Launching of this rocket was  historical as the first rocket that launched from Sri Lanka with the state patronage. High officials of the Sri Lanaka Air force and other air force personnel participated for this event. It was launched using a solid fuel and the main objective of this process was to check the solid fuel efficiency, qualitative analysis of internal parts and materials that used and to evaluate electronic system, recovery system, body stabilizing and Data retrieval system. However, Rapter 1 was launched on 23rd of August, 2019 at about 13.00 in Sri lankan time. It detected flaws in rocket’s flight and then began to build a new rocket for Rapter 2 operation.

RAPTOR 02

After launching the first experimental rocket rapter 1, began to manufacture the Rapter 2 experimental rocket avoiding and correcting the flaws of the first experimental rocket. All parts of Rapter 2 were examined and confirmed the accuracy of them. The entire rocket was powerd up on a ground test pad where all parts and accessories were vertified and all it’s systems were functioned properly. Rapter 2 also belongs to 75mm category, and powered by solid fuels. The speciality of it was creating a new solid fuel formula inside the country by himself after doing many researches. Evaluating that new solid fuel’s efficiency was one of the main objective of this second launching project. Raptet 2 was successfully tested at Kalpitiya rocket launching pad on 23rd of August,2019.
